Acknowledgement

As I look back, I can vividly remember the beginning when my father, my brother and myself, struggled to survive in a new country. The only assets we possessed were the joy of being free, the longing for the family that was left in Cuba, and a burning desire to succeed. We found the strength in each other and in this great nation, that welcomed and believed in us thus opening the doors of opportunities that were denied to us in our own country.Today, I am proud to say that each and every one of our employees works with our same enthusiasm and dedication, making El Dorado Furniture a successful and prestigious organization. Our philosophy is consistent: to continue to grow and lead in the furniture industry while preserving the personal touch. There is a sincere interest and respect for everyone who is directly or indirectly a part of the El Dorado family. We are honored to rank within the top 50 out of more than 35,000 furniture stores in the United States today, and our corporate goal is to be the top furniture retailer in the country. We will continue to grow as we have done by providing outstanding customer service, reaching new levels of performance and always remembering that the sky is the limit!

How It All Began...

The beginnings of El Dorado Furniture, a three-generation-old business, dates back to the 1920's in Cuba. Manuel Capó's father, Simon, traded farm products for used furniture that he restored and would later sell. Simon eventually grew this small business into a chain of five furniture stores named Casa Capó. By 1950, Casa Capó was one of Cuba's largest furniture manufacturing and retail enterprises. Once Fidel Castro came to power, Simon’s stores were taken away from him. Feeling his family was no longer safe living in Cuba, Manuel Capo made a decision that would completely change his life and that of his family. In 1966, he and two of his sons, Carlos and Luis, fled Cuba in a small sail boat christened "El Dorado." They arrived in Mexico and made their way to the United States, obtaining political refugee status. Once in the U.S., father and sons returned to what they knew best: they started their own furniture manufacturing business. The store they opened was named after the boat that freed the Capós from Cuba, El Dorado.

As a leader in the industry El Dorado has also become a symbol of giving back to South Florida, particularly to kids and their families. The company actively works with charities including: Miami Children's Hospital, March of Dimes, League Against Cancer, Habitat for Humanity, Amigos for Kids, American Red Cross and City of Hope.
